Progressive Groups File Petition with DNC Calling for “Emergency Meeting”

Amid new reports that public approval of the Democratic Party has reached an all-time low, two national organizations – Progressive Democrats of America and RootsAction – have sent a petition with more than 1,500 individual comments from across the country to Democratic National Committee chair Ken Martin.
On Friday (May 30), the DNC’s powerful executive committee will convene. That meeting, in Little Rock, Ark., will be the executive committee’s first since mid-December.
The petition, with 7,000 signers, warns that “the Democratic Party has failed to confront the urgency of this perilous moment for the future of the United States.” The petition contends that the DNC, the governing body of the Democratic Party, “should convene an emergency meeting of all its members – fully open to the public – as soon as possible. Waiting until the next regular meeting in late summer would be irresponsible and unacceptable.”
The petition adds: “Business as usual must give way to truly bold action that mobilizes against the autocracy that Donald Trump, Elon Musk and their cronies are further entrenching every day. The predatory, extreme and dictatorial actions of the Trump administration call for an all-out commensurate response, which so far has been terribly lacking from the Democratic Party.”

Another project, maybe in key districts might be based on Netflix. The founders met before work in Santa Cruz for coffee across the street from a Post Office. Marc Randolph mentioned to Reed Hastings that a Japanese company had perfected a video cd . At the time U.S. companies were only making audio, mostly music cds . But if they could be shipped without damage they might be able to take on Block Busters. They mailed a Patsy Cline cd to Reed’s house and it arrived in good condition. Democrats might likewise be able to ship polybag yard signs attacking Republican incumbents with the message about the Republican’s weak position and vote on an issue. They could ship out thousands at a time. They only need to canvass Democrats and give supporters of the project, one or two wire sign holders.Maybe Reed could fund it!
I wrote the local party building resolution which passed at the DNC(2005) which calls for investing time into “home visits” which requires some resources. Not much but some . Maybe 5 percent of what is spent on candidate ads. Getting the DNC to require that the party invest into its members would move the party to the left. An organizer who was required to do 15 to 20 home visits a week would do a lot of local party building IMO. Anything else might be wishful thinking.Press the DNC on this and they might bend.
Democrats must return to their roots of representing working class Americans. They must stop capitulating and strategize on a United front against the GOP fascism. We cannot continue with business as usual. There is nothing usual about the autocracy taking root. We have to mobilize NOW to save this democracy and build a more perfect union by and for the people.
