Later Today: Two Labor Leaders Running for Congress Join Our Progressive Town Hall
Join us TODAY for a special Labor Day edition of the Progressive Town Hall as we focus on the state of organized labor, the Trump administration’s actions affecting unions and federal workers, and what comes next for the labor movement.
We’ll be joined by two amazing special guests.
Lauren Reinhold:
Lauren Reinhold has been a Kansan for 32 years, an attorney for 28 years, a longtime federal employee, and a workers’ rights advocate committed to strengthening rural communities, protecting the middle and working class, and restoring integrity to public service. Lauren won her primary election earlier this summer and is gearing up for a huge upset this November.
With more than 25 years of experience in public institutions—including her role as Attorney Advisor at the Social Security Administration —Lauren has dedicated her life helping families navigate federal systems, advocating for fair treatment of workers, and building efficient, people-centered government.
Lauren’s district includes the university towns of Lawrence and Manhattan, and a massive swath of rural Kansas. Her district is the 14th largest geographically in the U.S. Congress, and is about a six-hour drive end to end.
Carleigh Beriont:
Carleigh Beriont is a union organizer, teacher, local elected leader, and mom of two who has spent her life strengthening communities and fighting for working families.
At home in Hampton, Carleigh lives with her husband Eric — a proud public middle school English teacher — and their two kids. Hampton is a purple community on the New Hampshire Seacoast, and leading it has taught her that good governance means showing up, listening, and finding real solutions for real people.
This is an open congressional seat. Democratic Rep. Chris Pappas, who has represented the district since 2019, is leaving the House seat to run for U.S. Senate, producing a crowded Democratic primary. NHPR reports that eight Democrats remain on Tuesday’s ballot, including Beriont.
