As the world and the country lurch from one headline-dominating crisis to another, the fact that this has been the hottest early summer in the history of the northern hemisphere has been under-reported. Nowhere has this been more evident than the American Southwest, and its largest city, Phoenix, Arizona.

Fortunately, Democrats in Arizona’s 3rd district have a real opportunity to do something about it – by electing a great progressive and climate champion to the U.S. Congress, Raquel Teran.

Raquel Teran is a phenomenal candidate. An unwavering champion for working people, Raquel had a very successful tenure as the progressive head of the Arizona Democratic Party before entering the Arizona State Senate. She has an excellent chance to win in AZ-3, where Congressman Ruben Gallego is stepping down to run for the U.S. Senate.

However, in an all-too familiar story, Raquel’s main opponent, a more conservative Democrat, has raised more money than Raquel, making this a close race.

This fact speaks volumes not only about American politics, but the entire crisis of agency that threatens to paralyze the whole human race. How so? There are solutions to the problems we are facing, including anthropogenic climate change, but we’re seemingly incapable of implementing these solutions.

In the United States of America, the most powerful and influential country in the world, entrenched wealth and power blocks almost all significant change from occurring – by defeating the political movement that champions the best solutions for the people and the planet, the progressives.

But it’s time for us to reverse this narrative!  In the July 30th primary the people of AZ-3 can elect a true progressive, an advocate for the Green New Deal, Raquel Teran! It will be a great victory for the progressive movement, the people, and the planet!
