The Week That Was
In solidarity, Mike Hersh for Alan, Mike F., Janis, Deb, Dan, Dr. Bill, Kim, Bryan, and Shayna—your PDA National Team
Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) recognizes and thanks you for your action because your activism makes a real difference! When House leadership resisted our demands for a Select Committee for a #GreenNewDeal, and opted for a business as usual approach, we went into action. Presumptive House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, expected House Leader Steny Hoyer et al designated Rep. Katherine Castor to chair a weaker committee on climate change. We were not satisfied.
Rep. Castor at first welcomed members of Congress beholden to big oil and gas campaign contributions to serve on the committee. Progressives said no way! PDA Activists in Tampa Bay joined with allies putting the pressure on in her district. We haven’t gotten our demands fully met…yet, but we did force key concessions. Thanks to your support for our demands, Rep. Castor publicly pledged to refuse all contributions from fossil fuel companies. Now, help us keep the pressure on until we enact the Green New Deal, the OFF Fossil Fuels Act, and other legislation to address the Climate Emergency.
Use our Action Alert to tell your members of Congress
not to cave to Trump’s childish demands for a racist wall
Trump’s increasingly erratic behavior shut down the federal government over his demands for a wasteful, racist wall, and he threatens to cause even more chaos by pulling out of the intermediate nuclear weapons treaty—a truly horrifying prospect.
PDA and our partners are calling on Congress to defend the treaty that bans intermediate-range nuclear missiles (INF). Experts are alarmed that pulling out of the treaty will heighten the risks of nuclear war. Click here to contact your Representative and both of your Senators.
Reminder: sign up to help host a Medicare for All (MFA) Barnstorming Tour event, working with National Nurses United and our other allies organizing events to help us achieve Medicare For All.
Please contact your Representative and urge him or her to join the Medicare for All Caucus.Remember to share this action alert on social media and with your friends (Note: please remain patient if the action alert system is still connecting you with a recently defeated or retired Senator or Representative. Updates are in progress.)
We need the inspiring leadership of PDA-endorsed Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on the powerful House Ways and Means Committee. Sign this petition to help us build pressure to get AOC on Ways and Means, (and other progressives on important House committees).
With your help, PDA will continue building capacity, working to bring together and mobilize allied organizations and activists like you to accomplish great things. Your monthly donation of $100, $27, $10, or $5 gives us the resources we need to sustain the struggle for peace, healthcare as a human right, the climate, clean and fair elections, social and economic justice, ending corporate rule, and so much more.
We don’t get a dime from corporations. We rely exclusively on support from activists like you. To build on our midterm successes, we need your help now! Please sign up now to make automatic monthly sustaining gifts or a generous one-time gift now. If you can give $5 per month, that’s great! $10? Wonderful! $27? Spectacular! Whatever you can spare will help keep us working for you. Thanks so much for anything you can do right now to help us reach our goal of 100 new monthly sustainers by New Years.
Thank you so much for supporting PDA and our shared efforts for progress! We appreciate you more than words can say.
