Today is the 87th anniversary of the Social Security Act of 1935. Social Security has been there every month for American workers. Steady, like a rock. Help us protect and expand the Social Security safety net with a monthly contribution.
Ahead of that anniversary, in quick succession, the razor-thin Democratic majorities in Congress have delivered bills making semiconductor production more competitive, expanding veterans’ healthcare benefits to include deleterious effects of toxic burn pits, and passing the $700 billion climate, tax, and healthcare package now called the Inflation Reduction Act. The social safety net in the U.S. remains inadequate, but legislators are moving in the right direction.
In addition, funds from the massive infrastructure act, enacted last fall, are beginning to invigorate projects around the country, unemployment remains historically low, and President Biden has gotten 75 judges appointed to the three tiers of the federal judiciary since the beginning of his term, more than either of his two immediate predecessors at this point in their presidencies.
Imagine what we could do with more progressive Democrats in the majority.
At PDA, we imagine that future every day, and every day we act to make it a reality. Join us in supporting efforts to elect progressive champions, hold elected officials accountable, and advocate for more progressive policies. We work 24/7, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
We need your continuing financial support to make ours a more progressive and equitable society. Please become a monthly sustainer today, for all the tomorrows. Steady, like the rock that is Social Security.
