Twenty-five years ago today, our country experienced one of the darkest days in our history. In the aftermath of the September 11 attacks, Bernie Sanders, then a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, offered this warning:

“The goal of terrorism is to demoralize people and to create fear, uncertainty, and instability. Our Nation must not succumb to that and give terrorists that victory.”

The attacks of September 11 changed America and the world, and the progressive movement that was then coalescing back then.  

9/11 meant terrible tragedy at home and the forever wars that lasted decades. The 9/11 reponse  expanded the national security state and led to the eventual rise of Barack Obama, Donald Trump, and the modern day progressive movement, including the start of PDA in 2004. 

This Sunday at 4 PM ET / 1 PM PT, join Progressive Democrats of America for our National Progressive Town Hall as we reflect on 25 years since 9/11 and ask what lessons progressives should carry forward. RSVP here.
