Progressive Democrats of America endorses Jarrett Keohokalole for Congress in Hawaii’s 1st District

Washington, D.C. — Progressive Democrats of America issued a statement today, expressing its enthusiastic endorsement of Jarrett Keohokalole for the U.S. House of Representatives in Hawaii’s District 1. PDA Executive Director Alan Minsky described Jarrett Keohokalole as, “exactly the type of champion for the welfare of the average Hawaiian family, American household, and the stewardship of our planet that we need in the 21st century.”

Minsky said, “American politics are going through a transition. The public recognizes that the post-Reagan era of market fundamentalism has not worked for the average American. All the benefits in society accrue to the wealthy few, while the majority of the population must struggle to keep their head above water. In the mid 90s, the Democratic Party capitulated to this Reaganite ideology; and now the Democratic Party base realizes that a break is necessary, and a new brand of progressives are winning primaries across the country.”

Minsky said, “The latest addition to this excellent list of progressive Democrats running for federal office is Jarrett Keohokalole. As a member of the Hawaiian State Senate, Jarrett is not only an advocate for single-payer universal healthcare, he is the author of the bill. On issue after issue, he represents a return to the great tradition of progressive politics that defined Hawaii in the many decades that followed its establishment as the 50th state in our union.”

Minsky said, “In this manner, State Senator Keohokalole stands in marked contrast to the incumbent, Ed Case, who consistently has one of the most conservative voting records of any Democrat in the U.S. House of Representatives. Representative Case and his policies represent a continuation of stagnancy — or worse — for the people of Hawaii and everyone in the United States. Jarrett Keohokalole stands for a new day: a progressive path forward in which the American middle class can be fully inclusive of all peoples and enjoy middle-class prosperity, a renewed agency for their life, with a renewed sense of confidence that a better future is ahead.”
