Your Monthly Gift Supports the Long Game at PDA—
Passing the ERA
We at PDA play the long game—building support for Medicare For All, fighting the climate crisis, supporting social and racial justice, and passing the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA).
When the original (extended) deadline passed in 1982, the ERA had been ratified by 35 of the required 38 states. In January 2020, Virginia became the 38th state to ratify the ERA, setting up a battle over the deadline established in the original introduction to the amendment.
As she has done since 2014, Rep. Jackie Speier introduced H.J.Res. 17 in the 117th Congress, to remove the deadline for passage of the ERA. Now, with 209 cosponsors (208 Democrats and one Republican), the House is set to vote this week on removing the ratification deadline. We need to mobilize voters to build support for this critical piece of legislation. Sign up here to volunteer.
PDA’s ability to meet these challenges and respond to fast breaking events requires both volunteers and financial support.
Join the generous PDA activists across the country who support our efforts with monthly gifts of $38, $27, $10, or $5. We do what we do for you, and we can’t do it without you.
