PDA Weekly Review and Preview for 1-22-22
In solidarity,
Mike Fox for the PDA National Team
Another Busy Week Behind Us, and Before Us. You in?
While the news on voting rights was less than inspiring this past week, we continue the fight. Make sure you join our Progressive Town Hall Sunday on the next steps to victory. John Lewis never quit. Neither do we!
On the good news front, the California Single-Payer Healthcare bill got passed through committee, so we’re one step closer to the largest state in the Union guaranteeing healthcare for all its people! (We’ll also be discussing that topic on the Sunday Town Hall. Sign up below.)
Join us for any/all of the below this week!
- Organizing NOW for Texas Wins in March. We have some tremendous progressive candidates, including Jessica Cisneros running against FBI-targeted DINO Henry Cuellar in the TX-28 primary. We need everyone in the country to pile on to get progressive wins in 2022 off to an early start. Organizing call Saturday, Jan. 22, 5pm ET, 4pm CT, 3pm MT, 2pm PT. RSVP here. Can’t make the call? Let us know if you’re up for making calls from home, canvassing in-state, or being part of a disciplined daily social media team.
- Progressive Virtual Town Hall Sunday: Single-Payer Wins in California, and Our Next Steps to Win Voting Rights. California Assembly Bill 1400, which sets in motion a single-payer universal health care system in California, has passed through both of its committees (with flying colors!) and is headed for a floor vote before the end of the month. We’ll hear an update from Michael Lighty and Dr. Bill Honigman and others on the front line to win! Then Mimi Kennedy, Alan Minsky, Andrea Miller, Ray McClendon, Mayor Jennifer Roberts, Kenny Bruno, Sara Nelson, James Fukuda, Christian Nunes, Danny Goldberg, Jan Goodman, Robert Wilson, Lori Pesante, Danny Sheehan, Rev. Rodney Sadler, John Brakey, Tatanka Bricca, Joel Segal, Harvey Wasserman and more are featured panelists as we discuss how we win the voting rights struggle! RSVP here.
- Special Training For Women Wanting To Run For Office. In solidarity with progressive journalist Nomiki Konst and her new organization Matriarch, we encourage all progressive poor and working-class women who want to run for office in 2022 to join Matriarch’s free training on Saturday January 29th.
- Join the National Phone Team. Make easy calls from home to fellow PDA folks to ensure they’re in the know about important actions and candidates. We work 7 days a week, so whenever is good for you is good for us. Click here to join.
- Become a local Congressional Office Liaison. Work with others in your area to promote progressive legislation and end the filibuster in the Senate. Contact Danett to get involved.
- For “Clicktivists”: End the global Pandemic by supporting H.Con.Res 60. Sign the petition to limit the most polluting gas: Methane. Support the expansion of Social Security by becoming a grassroots cosponsor of the Social Security Act of 2021.
- “Like” our Facebook page and/or follow us on Twitter, if you’re a social media maven.
- Then please let us know if you act.
- Can’t volunteer? Please contribute what you are able to afford and make it monthly if you can. There’s much to do, and we need the resources to make it all happen.
Thanks so much for anything you can do to ramp up our victories in early 2022. Hope to see you soon!
