Every year since our founding in 2004, PDA has opposed the outrageous amount of money spent on the U.S. military industrial complex. This year’s National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), aka the annual U.S. military budget, is expected to reach the House floor later this week.

So, on Monday and Tuesday, PDA activists across the country will be writing and calling their members of Congress, urging them to vote for an amendment to the NDAA, introduced by Reps. Barbara Lee and Mark Pocan, calling for a 10% reduction of the military budget.  

Savannah Wooten from Public Citizen will joining us to provide an overview of the NDAA, highlight other essential amendments, and answer your questions. 

Then, we hope to be joined by Illinois State Representative Abdelnasser Rashid from the West Bank. Rep. Rashid, a progressive from a Chicagoland district, is visiting his family in Palestine. Two weeks ago, armed Israeli settlers suddenly stormed the village he grew up in. Rep. Rashid will join us to tell this harrowing story and offer his reflections following a week of violence and demonstrations in Palestine and Israel.

As with the NDAA, our goal is to inform and then encourage action.  We will provide an update on Congressional legislation that addresses the U.S. relationship with Palestine and Israel.

And finally we’ll discuss the next potential steps to combat the rogue U.S. Supreme Court.
