No More Jim Crow: The Filibuster Must Go
Thanks for all you do,
Although the filibuster did not emerge from debates over slavery or segregation, this parliamentary tactic has been closely affiliated with opposition to civil rights for more than a century—from anti-lynching legislation in the early 1900s to civil rights legislation in the 1960s to the For the People Act, the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, and the Equality Act in 2021.
Let’s be clear. Republicans are not negotiating on voting rights or infrastructure or any other issue in good faith. Their goal today, as it was during President Obama’s tenure, is to obstruct the entire Democratic agenda.
PDA is working 24/7 for voting rights, implementing racial justice, eliminating social and economic inequity, reducing gun violence, and developing sustainable energy policies. We are stymied by a 50-50 Senate with a 60-vote filibuster threshold, corporate-sponsored Democrats, and obstruction-bound Republicans.
You know we operate on a shoestring budget powered by you—our loyal and dedicated supporters. Help us keep the pressure on Congress and the Biden administration to move beyond our country’s bloody past, and bring new liberties to all our brothers and sisters. Become PDA sustainer today.
The best way to support our continuing efforts is to become a PDA Sustainer—providing a reliable source of revenue to help us fight for progressive victories all summer long and beyond!
PS: For a good overview of much of the work we’re doing see the recordings from our recent Leadership Conference. If you like what you see, please become a sustainer today.
