President Biden Granted Clemency to
Leonard Peltier After Nearly 50 Years

Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) joined with activists and leaders calling for clemency for Leonard Peltier. Leonard had been imprisoned since 1976, and his health is failing.

We stood up with our Advisory Board member Rep. Raul Grijalva, dozens of other Congress members, Amnesty International, Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa, the Dalai Lama, the Pope and countless others who’ve demanded Leonard’s freedom.

Rep. Grijalva and 33 other Congress members co-signed a letter calling on President Biden to act writing: “[Y]ou have the unique ability to grant [Leonard Peltier] clemency and rectify this grave injustice that has long troubled human rights advocates and Native Peoples.”

Thankfully President Biden listened to us and Leonard has been released. Because people remained positive and assertive, Leonard is celebrating his freedom. He’s expressed heartfelt thanks to all of us who stood up for him.

The moral of the story is this: never let anyone tell you our cause is hopeless or that our voices don’t matter. What we do matters a lot.
