International Women’s Day Calls Us to #ChooseToChallenge
#ChooseToChallenge—Time to Act
The theme of International Women’s Day 2021 is #ChooseToChallenge. Challenge brings change, so we choose to challenge gender stereotypes and act for equality even as we celebrate women’s achievements around the world.
In the U.S., Vice President Kamala Harris broke another glass ceiling last November, yet women—especially women of color—have suffered most during the current pandemic’s healthcare and economic consequences. The most recent COVID relief bill, passed without any Republican support, concentrates assistance more on lower- and middle-income families, with some measures targeting women, but more needs to be done. Even a basic move to finally pass the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) is fraught with procedural and ideological hurdles.
PDA stands shoulder to shoulder with our sisters around the country and around the globe. We work with allies to promote peace, human rights, and an equitable and inclusive society here and throughout the world. #ChooseToChallenge by helping PDA promote gender equality through the ERA and by electing more progressive women to Congress. We depend on your support to continue our efforts, not just on International Women’s Day, but every day of every month of every year.
