Today, we honor Tim Carpenter, the lead founder of Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) and our first Executive Director. Tim relentlessly advocated for justice, peace, and grassroots political power. A former Jesse Jackson and Dennis Kucinich campaign organizer and a lifelong activist, Tim believed that change comes from the bottom up. He gathered progressives together in Roxbury, Massachusetts, to launch PDA during the DNC in the summer of 2004 with a clear mission: to pull the Democratic Party toward its progressive roots and always amplify the voices of those too often ignored: working people, peace activists, environmentalists, and the marginalized. Tim’s organizing wasn’t about headlines or personal gain; it was about building coalitions, finding common ground, and standing firm on principles—even when it wasn’t popular. Under his leadership, PDA became a home for progressive Democrats who refused to compromise on issues like Medicare for All, ending wars, protecting the planet, and expanding voting rights. His tireless energy, deep moral clarity, and belief in people’s power helped shape a new kind of politics—one rooted in conviction, not convenience. |
