Judy Hess—force of nature, longtime Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) National Field Coordinator, Vice Chair of PDA’s Board, California PDA State Co-Coordinator, former Chapter Leader in San Diego and Fresno, and progressive organizer in the California Democratic Party—has passed after a long battle with cancer.

A fervent advocate for peace and justice, Judy disarmed adversaries with her smile and inspired colleagues with her cheery determination and unwavering devotion to progressive causes. Judy always gave her all, tirelessly steering PDA through organizational challenges and helping to build our future.

Pitch In Each Month To Honor Judy Hess

On Friday and Saturday, many from the PDA family including—Executive Director Alan Minsky and Chairperson of the Board Conor Boylan—traveled to San Diego for Judy’s memorial service and funeral.

On Friday evening, we shared our love for Judy during a service led by Judy’s beloved son Bill. PDA Advisory Board Chair Emeritus author / actress /activist Mimi Kennedy gave a beautiful, stirring eulogy. On Saturday, Judy was laid to rest.

We founded Progressive Democrats of America more than 15 years ago to build a progressive majority. To help accomplish that goal, we recently endorsed several progressive champions. We need your help and support right now to get every one of them elected.
