Hearts and Darts on the Impeachment Trial
For a more progressive future,

On This Valentine’s Day and Presidents’ Day Weekend,
Donald Trump Escaped Judgment
The US Senate failed by 10 votes to convict Donald Trump of inciting the January 6 insurrection. House impeachment managers, led by Rep. Jamie Raskin, presented a forceful, eloquent, and damning case against the egregious misdeeds of the former president, but it was not enough.
Only seven of 50 Republican Senators had the fortitude and integrity to vote for conviction alongside 48 Democrats and two Independents, following 10 of their Republican House colleagues who voted to impeach last month. These Republicans have faced swift and serious blowback from a party devoid of conscience, deficient in spinal fortitude, and in thrall to a dangerous strongman wannabe dictator.
Forty-three Republican Senators found excuses to sustain an attempted coup against the US government. They did not protect the Constitution yesterday; they are unfit to govern going forward. Seventeen of those 43 Republican Senators are up for election in 2022, and PDA will vigorously support any progressives who run against them. We will energetically support progressives to challenge and replace the 147 House Republicans who voted against certifying the 2020 election results, even after the Capitol had been breached by Trump’s violent mob.
The bottom line is this: Trump was defeated in November 2020; Trumpism remains a potent and destructive force in the Republican Party and a serious threat to American democracy. It will be a long haul for us to beat Trumpism.
Please help PDA with a monthly sustaining gift in any amount—we depend on your continuing generous support to fund our efforts to make the Democratic Party more progressive and responsive to the people.
