Healthcare Is A Human Right Call!
By Donna Smith, Executive Director – Progressive Democrats of America
Wednesday evening, join Progressive Democrats of America for a special conference call with Lori Kearns, Sen. Bernie Sanders’ staffer who works on healthcare policy. Please click here to RSVP and to find out more about the call. PDA supported Bernie for president in large part because of his support for improved Medicare for All. We also suppprted Sen. Warren in every campaign she’s waged.
Ten years ago, then Harvard Law professor Elizabeth Warren and I testified on the same witness panel about the medical debt crisis. From that day forward, she and I have been in sync on every issue—well, almost—except for her former reluctance to support Medicare for all. But because I know her to be courageous, intensely curious, compassionate, and among the most intelligent people I have ever known, I knew earning her support would be a matter of time. I underestimated just how much it would mean to me to have her come on board.

With Sen. Warren’s announcement last week that she would be co-sponsoring Bernie’s bill, I heard our late founder, Tim Carpenter, cheering from his Massachusetts home, alongside our dear PDA-MA leaders like Martha and Russell Freedman and Kelley Johnson—all of whom spent quality time whenever they could reaching out to their Senator on this issue.
I also imagined Benjamin Day in Boston, everyone with Healthcare-NOW!, and so many of the awesome Medicare for all advocates in Massachusetts discussing this with Senator Warren. And I certainly think of all of the other allies in the single-payer movement working to garner support from one of the Senate’s most respected and influential members. I think I can even faintly hear some of the naysayers expressing a tiny bit of joy.
Now it’s time for the PDA family to step up too! Let’s make sure to add many co-sponsors to join Bernie, Senator Warren, and Senator Harris on Bernie’s Medicare for all bill. If you haven’t yet reached out to your own Senators, click here to send them a quick note, and then please share the link with all your friends to make sure they do as well. Please click here to RSVP, and to find out more about the Healthcare is a Human Right call with Lori Kearns, Sen. Bernie Sanders’ staffer on healthcare policy.
In solidarity,

Dear Legislators & Heroes:
My name is Dr Mauro Florentine PharmD. I have lived and breathed the American drug benefit…and…all of its junctures, Fiasco’s, potential for good and the unbelievable potential for greed and excess.
Ive been a doctor of pharmacy for 38 yrs; additionally I have been intimately familiar with the issues surrounding the provision of healthcare and drug benefits for over 28+yrs. There is not one arena related to the successful provision and management of drug benefit issues that I haven’t been intimately involved in including: HMO/PPO/ACA/CMS/Risk/Quality measurement/PBM/PharmA/generic vs brand issues/rebate contracting and negotiation/DSM/Utilization management/Medicare Medicaid and commercial/specialty drug benefit/high cost injectable/formulary/P&T Committee/patient education/high cost vs high risk disease states/Retail Network pharmacy contracting/brand patent expiration/FDA drug “studies”….and much much more!
I’d love to help you folks Wade thru this morass of potential minefield to be able to offer the American people a unified, fair, just drug benefit….not the current drug benefit that is rife with errors, greed, narcissism and graft.
I have successfully originated, managed and analyzed/assessed numerous drug benefits which are true testimonials to good medicine, empathy, fairness, cost control and… benefits marked by every participating member having a say in their care and/or being listened to “,by the system”
Sincerely, Mauro Florentine PharmD
