Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) Celebrates
Victories in 2018 and Prepares for the Hard Work Ahead

The entire PDA team worked tirelessly to help the Democrats win control of the U.S. House of Representatives with an increased number of true progressives in their ranks. The result is a great victory! But there’s no rest for the weary. Our hearts are burdened by the latest mass murder through gun violence—this time in my own community, Southern California—a life and death issue on which progressives must prevail.

Trumpism is stalled, but far from defeated. The threat remains and must be overcome. This historic moment requires an ambitious agenda, and PDA is getting ready. We’re rededicated to empowering a progressive political revolution to enact systemic reforms. We are committed to driving the Democratic Party away from bland, donor-centric centrism; back to its roots as a people’s party. Anything less risks enabling the triumph of the Trump-led right wing, and that is simply unacceptable.

PDA will be taking a leading role, in coordination with our partners and allies, on setting a powerful progressive agenda on several fronts: Medicare For All, stopping global warming and environmental degradation, voting rights and democracy, economics and budgetary policies to promote inclusive prosperity, a peaceful foreign policy, universal civil rights and equality for all, education without lifetime indebtedness, expansive labor rights, justice for all including Immigrants, corporate regulation including net neutrality, and so much more. We Have Much To Do; Our Work Continues!

We thank you for your donations, your phone calls, your chapter organizing efforts! With the Democratic majority in the House, we progressives have an opportunity to advocate for vastly improved policies on the most significant issues facing America. We intend to seize this opportunity, no holds barred. We invite your full participation in this growing movement!

In the coming weeks, PDA will work with progressives in Congress and outside activist movements to draft policies and proposed legislation that will constitute no less than an integrated progressive platform to carry forward into the 2020 election cycle. While much of it is familiar from PDA’s work since 2004 and the 2016 Bernie Sanders campaign, it has evolved further and added some new innovations.

With your ongoing support, PDA will help to champion policies that will best serve the vast majority of Americans. Almost all of them are already overwhelmingly popular. We are confident that we can help mobilize the majority of the American public to demand action on all of these progressive policies.

We will work closely with our Advisory Board Members—U.S. Representatives Tulsi Gabbard, Raul Grijalva, Barbara Lee, Jamie Raskin, and James McGovern—as well as our other endorsees like Pramila Jayapal, Marc Pocan, Judy Chu, and Ruben Gallego and the entire Progressive Caucus, and with inspiring freshmen Rashida Tlaib, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Veronica Escobar, Deb Haaland, “Chuy” Garcia, Ayanna Pressley, Mike Levin, and Harley Rouda. We will step up our Senate organizing with progressive champions Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren.

Together, we will persist: fighting the Trump Administration’s anti-democratic reactionary agenda, promoting a positive progressive vision, and organizing for even more progressive victories coast to coast. The consequences of failure for both the American Democratic experiment and our planet’s environment are far too dire.

Implementing progressive policies will greatly improve the lives of the vast majority of Americans. So, in the coming days, we will be outlining for you the policies we see as making up a winning progressive Democratic platform for 2020 and beyond.
