Late breaking news: Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) is forced to share some troubling news. At a campaign-style event in Phoenix, Arizona last night, Trump again hinted that he is planning to pardon disgraced former sheriff Joe Arpaio. Still, with Trump nothing is ever certain. Help us keep the pressure on. If you haven’t already, please sign and share the petition to oppose Trump’s pardoning of Joe Arpaio.

PDA is helping to lead the Summer for Progress. We’re organizing within a huge coalition for the People’s Platform, 8 bills we’re urging all Democratic Representatives to cosponsor. One of the bills—Sen. Bernie Sanders’ and Rep. Bobby Scott’s Raise the Wage Act—would enact a Living Wage. The People’s Platform is a wide ranging progressive platform in the spirit of the New Deal. The Raise the Wage Act captures the spirit of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s words: “By living wages, I mean more than a bare subsistence level—I mean the wages of a decent living.” (1933, Statement on National Industrial Recovery Act).

The living wage was a cornerstone of FDR’s proposed “Second Bill of Rights.” Several decades later, we’re demanding our due! Call 844-266-4612 and tell your Representative to cosponsor Rep. We need the Raise the Wage Act. Once $15 is reached, it would adjust the minimum wage each year to keep pace with growth in the typical worker’s wages, a true Living Wage. It would also phase out the outdated sub-minimum wage for tipped workers, which has been frozen at a meager $2.13 since 1991 and phase out the sub minimum wage for workers under the age of 20.
