Petition to get AOC on Ways & Means
With your help, Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) and our partners will close out 2018 with strong momentum! This is a long email, because we had another very productive week. We’re making progress on Medicare for All (MFA), ending the War in Yemen, protecting basic human rights, and demanding Internet Equality via Net Neutrality. We also delivered Educate Congress letters, called for Healthcare Not Warfare, and helped relaunch the Bernie Delegates Network (BDN).
See below for PDA Advisory Board Chair Donna Smith’s statements in the BDN press release about this exciting development, and for easy, effective things you can do right now to stand up against oligarchs, racism, and injustice—and to build and empower the progressive political revolution.
Sign the petition for human rights at the border
The tragic and avoidable death of Jakelin Caal demands our attention and action. We cannot sit by and let these atrocities continue. We must respect refugees imperiled by destabilizing imperialist policies seeking asylum, who are met with barbarism. Sign this petition to demand the end to horrendous human rights violations and militarization at the border. Please also urge Congress not to waste $billions on more border barbarism—not one cent for Trump’s racist wall. Use our Action Alert to tell your members of Congress not to cave to Trump’s childish tantrums for a border wall.
Reminder: join a planning call to help organize a MFA Barnstorming event in your area. Barnstorming Tour, working with National Nurses United and our other allies organizing events to help us achieve Medicare For All. Sign up for a “Host a Local Barnstorm” Training Call TODAY Saturday Dec 15th @ 12:30 pm PT/3:30 pm ET or Monday Dec 17th @ 5 pm PT/8pm ET.
Please contact your Representative and urge him or her to join the Medicare for All Caucus.Remember to share this action alert on social media and with your friends (Note: please remain patient if the action alert system is still connecting you with a recently defeated or retired Senator or Representative. Updates are in progress.)
We need the inspiring leadership of PDA-endorsed Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on the powerful House Ways and Means Committee. Sign this petition to help us build pressure to get AOC on Ways and Means, (and other progressives on important House committees).
Thanks to Bernie’s leadership and your activism, the Senate passed a resolution to end U.S. support for the Saudi-led slaughter in Yemen. Sign this petition to help PDA Advisory Board member Rep. Barbara Lee force Paul Ryan to bring the resolution to to an up or down vote in the House.
With your help, PDA will continue building capacity, working to bring together and mobilize allied organizations and activists like you to accomplish great things. The Bernie Delegates Network is one important effort to achieve progress on our shared priorities.
From the Bernie Delegates Network press release:
[G]oing into the [2016 Democratic] convention, several hundred delegates voted in Bernie Delegates Network surveys to give top priority to visibly expressing opposition to the Trans-Pacific Partnership and support for single-payer Medicare for All.
“It makes perfect sense that 2016 Bernie delegates—who gave hundreds of hours of service in order to pursue policies like improved Medicare for All and an aggressive climate emergency mobilization—would now be organized to help develop plans for the future and remain connected to each other across the country,” said Donna Smith, currently the chair of the National Advisory Board of Progressive Democrats of America.
Smith is a former executive director of PDA, whose members included more than 200 Sanders delegates at the national convention. She added: “I hope the 2019 Bernie Delegates Network will once again push the edges of the possible for Democrats who still believe we can reframe our message, retain our core mission in support of justice, and regain our power to lead. After all, Bernie’s 2016 Democratic presidential primary and the delegates he inspired have already helped to elect the new class of congressional leaders who are already shaking the balance of power.”
