Women’s History Month Is Alive and Well

Celebrate Women’s Rights Around the World!

Despite some ridiculous and dangerous attacks in recent weeks on the freedoms women have fought for, sacrificed for, and even died for, Women’s History Month 2025 is underway. The theme for this year’s observance is “Moving Forward Together! Women Educating & Inspiring Generations.”

Every single year since 1988, a presidential proclamation from both Democratic and Republican U.S. presidents alike announced the month-long celebration with steadfast appreciation and seemingly sincere admiration for all women. First built on the observance of “International Women’s Day,” on March 8th each year, Women’s History Month celebrates our history and achievements.

“During Women’s History Month, we pause to pay tribute to the remarkable women who prevailed over enormous barriers, paving the way for women of today to not only participate in but to lead and shape every facet of American life,” proclaimed Donald J. Trump in 2017 during his first term.

It would seem we were able to recognize the history and achievements of half of the world’s population in a non-partisan recognition upon which we all could agree. Yet, this year we face a different Trump administration, and the proclamation that announces Women’s History Month 2025 is laden with a deeply anti-freedom, deeply anti-equality, and deeply MAGA partisan anger. The Republican message didn’t celebrate or recognize women as we might have seen; rather, the message delivered was meant to slam forward Trump’s agenda targeting the LGBTQ+ community and immigrants.

From the “Women’s History Month 2025” proclamation published by Donald J. Trump, “I am also delivering on my promise to secure our borders, deport illegal criminal aliens, rebuild our economy, school choice, make America healthy again, and improve access to in vitro fertilization — and I have only just started. I will never stop fighting for America’s women and families.”

So, this Women’s History Month 2025 we proclaim we will not turn back or endeavor to “make America great again.” We will proclaim our power and our passion to lift all of our sisters in the struggle. Together, progressive women can turn the tide of hatred, greed, and implicit and explicit sexism that has been celebrated so far this year. During this Women’s History Month, we will use our voices to call our own elected officials, our minds to organize with one another, and our bodies, if necessary, to stop harm from coming to all people. Join us. Our conversations often become actions.
