Will You Be Able To Vote?

Pitch In Each Month To Help Us Protect The Right To Vote
Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) was founded in 2014 to demand progress on Medicare for All, Climate, Cleaning Up Elections and Politics, and much more. We’re dedicated to upholding the simple proposition: “Let me vote, count my vote.” In recent years, the GOP has had a simple strategy to win in the midterms: get out their voters, and suppress the Democratic votes. We have to make sure it’s different this time. So, this year, PDA is partnering with our sister organization, People Demanding Action and the nationwide Reclaim Our Vote Project.
Help Us Protect Voting Rights
VOLUNTEER by emailing Mike Fox. He’ll get you
signed up to help us prevent vote suppression
We need your help and support right now to protect voting rights. Your monthly donation of $50, $20, $10, or $5 will provide us with the resources we need to make sure we can vote, and to make sure our votes are counted accurately.
Andrea Miller, Executive Director of People Demanding Action, asked us to share the following information with you:
Where once we had poll taxes, today we have onerous voter ID requirements designed to keep poor people out. Where once we had racial intimidation at the voter-registration office, today voter registration locations are being closed in African American areas.
In 2008 4.7 million people could not vote because of felony disenfranchisement; today more than 6.1 million are disenfranchised.
Where once we had vote suppression, today we have voter suppression. The right to vote should be our common ground in a democracy. But it’s not, it never has been, and we need to fight—now—so that it actually can be.
What does voter suppression look like? It looks like 48 million Americans (16.4 million community of color) may not be able to cast a ballot this November because their voter registration has been de-activated or they have been unregistered by their Board of Elections.
We need you! Join us. Because in Alabama, polling places and registration offices are being closed across counties where African Americans disproportionately live. Because in Texas, your voter registration will be de-activated if you don’t confirm your address every two years. Because across the country, but especially in the South, hostile election authorities are trying every trick in the book to disenfranchise American citizens, because they don’t want us to vote.
Our message is simple: We must vote. We can vote. And we will vote! But we need your help to make sure we can vote and our votes are counted as cast.
VOLUNTEER by emailing Mike Fox. He’ll get you signed up to contact citizens targeted for vote suppression, and to let them know how to protect their voter registration in their state. We want 5,000 volunteers working the phones to reach voters at risk of disenfranchisement, and let them know their vote matters.
DONATE to support this historic effort; this is a major non-partisan effort, not about political parties or candidates. We want to make certain that people are able to vote! Period.
TELL YOUR FRIENDS by forwarding this message.
In solidarity,
Andrea Miller
Executive Director, People Demanding Action
P.S. Are You Registered To Vote? Are you sure? Everyone who plans to vote in 2018 should check their voter registration status and make sure that it is still active—even if you’ve voted recently. Make sure to tell your friends and family to check their status as well.
We’re here to help you make progress in your state and locality! If you need help organizing a new PDA chapter or energizing your existing chapter, please contact PDA Field Coordinator Dan O’Neal. Join the PDA Phone Team making easy, effective calls from your own home with Mike “Phone Guy” Fox. Also please pitch in $1000, $100, or whatever you can afford to support our organizing.
