PDA champions bold, progressive, and effective solutions to our challenges. We support the Green New Deal—which includes Medicare For All (MFA) and a federal jobs guarantee—as the stimulus / bailout we need right now to ensure a rapid and full economic recovery.

Crisis management—waiting until an emergency strikes before rushing to take long-overdue measures to address a crisis—begets further crises. Pandemics come in multiple waves, crises occur unexpectedly, and only fundamental, structural change will deal with the current crises and future emergencies.

The coronavirus pandemic clearly demonstrates the need for immediate implementation of Medicare For All and the rest of the Green New Deal on an emergency basis.

Medicare For All is a vital component of the comprehensive Green New Deal agenda. Governments—from local to international levels—are currently making harsh decisions to halt the spread of an invisible threat that knows no geopolitical borders.

Remedies for a pandemic are not solely the province of experts. To contain this virus, we must invoke community values including investing tangible and immediate social and economic resources to secure long-term benefits.

We must also act immediately to contain the spread of the Novel Coronavirus. Our nurses and other healthcare professionals aren’t getting the safety equipment they need to stay healthy as they deal with this emergency.

Call your Representative at 202-335-6015 and use this simple script to demand action to protect people on the front lines of this pandemic crisis.

“Hi, my name is (your name), and I’m a constituent from (your city or town). I’m calling to ask (your representative) to ask the Representative to cosponsor the COVID-19 Health Care Worker Protection Act (H.R. 6139), insist that this legislation is included in the next COVID-19 omnibus bill, and to vote YES to pass it on the House floor. It is crucial that we take action to protect frontline health workers, patients, and the public during this crisis, as is necessary to contain this pandemic. Thank you.”

Candidates Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden offer markedly different plans to cope with the novel coronavirus pandemic crisis. Bernie says we need to take care of people now, while also expanding and improving our healthcare system including infrastructure through Medicare For All.

Biden insists that small, incremental steps are enough. Biden’s approach is limited, and in some ways more comforting, but Bernie’s approach is the one favored by most voters because it includes the multi-layered vision we need to solve the immediate crisis, to mitigate its long-term effects, and ready us for future pandemics and crises.

Who’s gonna pay for it? Consider this: In response to this pandemic, our government has been pumping $trillions into the stock market, and is considering a $1.3 trillion stimulus/bailout for select industries. My, how times have changed.

Just a few weeks ago, corporatist pundits and like-minded presidential candidates were taking umbrage at a $30 billion price tag for implementation of Medicare For All. PDAers know MFA will save 10,000s of lives and 100s of $Billions every year. That’s why we need MFA ASAP!

To ensure our immediate and long-term survival, we need the Green New Deal. Those policies will create millions of new highly-paid sustainable jobs to build critically-needed infrastructure (including hospitals and affordable housing), eliminate household debt, and enhance our social safety net. We must also suspend ICE raids and current detention practices.

The choice is ours. We must act now to protect our future, or we will suffer the consequences. That said, as the massive spending we’re seeing shows, we have more than enough resources to overcome our current challenges and fundamentally reform our society.

We can cope with the pandemic crisis and promote economic and social justice to ensure a high-quality standard of living for all of us. We as progressives will continue mobilizing to make it so.

P.S.: Please remember to RSVP to Mike Fox to join our Healthcare Emergency Virtual Town Hall / Webinar this Sunday 4-5pm ET 1-2pm PT. Mike will send you the call-in information.
