Congress: Open Government With No Wall
This is a long email, but please bear with us. This week was momentous for Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) and the progressive movement. We stood shoulder to shoulder with teachers in Los Angeles, and continued organizing for the new and improved Medicare for All House legislation which will be dropping soon.
Today, PDA and our allies are on the march—literally—all across the USA in solidarity with the #WomensWave! Meanwhile, the Donald Trump-Mitch McConnell shutdown drags on, costing public servants and all Americans dearly. Take action now! Please use and share these links to:

PDA is fighting for progress national and locally. When the United Teachers of Los Angeles (UTLA) went out on strike—fighting against the harm caused to their school district by privatization and the billionaire-funded Charter School movement—PDA stood with the teachers. Here’s the latest on the Trump-Mitch McConnell shutdown: McConnell keeps blocking a Senate vote on the same measure that passed in the 115th Congress, which Trump promised to sign, and which the new House has already passed.
The New York Times reports: “Mr. Trump is expected to announce on Saturday his support for extending deportation reprieves in exchange for $5.7 billion in funding for a wall along the southern border with Mexico, as the partial government shutdown enters its fifth week and Republican lawmakers and White House aides have pressured him to end the impasse.”
This is unacceptable. The American People, and both houses of Congress overwhelmingly support reopening our government. Period. We all also support comprehensive immigration reform. We do not want to waste $30 billion plus on a wasteful, ineffectual wall that will not make anyone safer, but will only signal symbolic support for bigots and extremists. Tell Trump To Reopen Government With No Wall and Tell Congress the same thing.
PDA was founded in 2004 to achieve progress on key priorities, among them clean, fair, open and transparent elections. The November election in Georgia was not anything like that. It was a travesty. Voter roll purges. False information. Intimidation. Suppression. By all accounts, Brian Kemp used every dirty trick in the book to steal the gubernatorial election in Georgia.
Sign the petition: tell the Justice Department to immediately investigate the reports of election fraud in Georgia. Also, please help us build support for a #GreenNewDeal, and to gain cosponsors for the OFF Fossil Fuels Act. Tell your Representative to join the Medicare for All Caucus. Remember to share these action alerts on social media and with your all your contacts via email. Please click on the links above to make your voice heard!
Reminder: sign up to help host or participate at a Medicare for All (MFA) Barnstorming Tour event, working with National Nurses United and our other allies organizing events to help us achieve Medicare For All. You’ll be an important part of a massive national week of action February 9th-13th.
With your help, PDA will continue mobilizing with allied organizations and activists like you to accomplish great things. Your monthly donation of $100, $27, $10, or $5 will give us the resources we need to sustain the struggle for peace, healthcare as a human right, the climate, clean and fair elections, social and economic justice, ending corporate rule, and so much more. We don’t get a dime from corporations.
We rely exclusively on support from activists like you. Please sign up now to make automatic monthly sustaining gifts or a generous one-time gift. If you can give $5 per month, that’s great! $10? Wonderful! $27? Spectacular! Whatever you can spare will help keep us working for you.
Thank you so much for supporting PDA and our shared efforts for progress! We appreciate you more than words can say.
In solidarity,
Mike Hersh for Alan, Mike F., Janis, Deb, Dan, Dr. Bill, Kim, Bryan, and Shayna—your PDA National Team
