PDA Just Held An Empowering
Grassroots Leadership Conference
Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) held an amazingly successful grassroots leadership conference this past weekend. It was such an outstanding event that an angel donor graciously offered to match every dollar you give to help PDA convene another grassroots leadership conference.
Chapter leaders traveled from as far away as Massachusetts, Maryland, Virginia, and Florida to meet with PDAers from California, Texas, Arizona, Ohio, and other states—all welcomed of course by our hosts from PDA New Mexico and the Historic Plaza Hotel’s owner Allan Affeldt.
We heard from progressive leaders including Rep. Jim McGovern, Rep. Katie Porter, and Rep. Ted Lieu; plus Our Revolution’s Nina Turner, People Demanding Action’s Andrea Miller, Social Security Works’ Alex Lawson, Erika Andiola of RAICES, and Code Pink’s Medea Benjamin—as well as our own Mimi Kennedy, Steve Cobble, Belen Sisa, Russell Greene, and Donna Smith.

Our Executive Director Alan Minsky reports:
At the opening of our annual PDA retreat this past week-end, I began my talk by saying that “Progressive Democrats are the Most Important Political Formation in the World right now.”
Please, take a moment and reflect on that.
Given all that is going on politically in America and the world – the crisis of Democracy due to the rise of right-wing racist nationalism; the broad dissatisfaction with the reigning neo-liberal economic order; and, of course, the climate emergency—we must ask the questions:
How do we overcome these severe, even existential, crises? What force can possibly deliver us into a better, most just, safer world?
The answers, I believe, are obvious: We must empower and mobilize an ascendant progressive movement inside the United States, which remains, after all, the most influential country in the world.
Therefore, in order to achieve the change we need, we must continue to bring our ascendent progressive movement into positions of power within the Democratic Party.
That is PDA’s unique mission; as such we are already one of the most important organizations in the movement. No one else has that essential mission: empowering progressives inside the Democratic Party to make the necessary changes for the country, the world, and the planet.
In solidarity,
Mike Hersh for Alan, Dr. Bill, Mike F., Janis, Deb, Dan, Kim, Bryan, and Shayna—your PDA National Team
