The Climate Strike Is Just The Beginning
Tell Representatives and Senators to Act!

This past week, as part of the week of action on the Climate Emergency, Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) joined international, national, and local organizations on Capitol Hill to Educate Congress. We visited more Senators’ and Representatives’ offices than ever before in PDA’s 15 year history.

Activists traveled from as far away as Los Angeles to lobby for the revolutionary Climate Emergency Concurrent Resolution from Reps. Blumenauer and Ocasio-Cortez, and Sen. Sanders. We also organized a well-attended briefing for staffers. This mobilization built on our efforts from our two-day lobby effort in July.

We’re exhausted, but inspired. We hope you will join in and help us pressure your elected officials to cosponsor. First, Click Here to see if your House Rep. is on H.Con.Res 52 and Click Here to see if your Senator is on S.Con.Res.22. If so, call and thank them. If not, call and ask for their support. There is huge momentum within the grass roots right now—from Climate Strike marches, to rallies and even people risking arrest in non-violent civil disobedience—all to bring attention to the Emergency and demand action to address this existential threat facing every person on the planet. Please do all you can right now to help.

Tell Your Representative and Senators To Cosponsor The Resolution!

PDA empowers you to take action on several issues each week

PDA demands accountability for Trump. We need to know, “Is Trump a Crook?” Behind Trump’s bizarre and unacceptable behavior—racist tweets, irrational lies, “Sharpiegate,” etc.—his policies continue to threaten American principles and lives.

Trump’s high crimes and misdemeanors finally pushed House leadership to join PDA and others demanding accountability.

Last week we called out Trump for gutting “Flores” protections for migrant children in custody, directing aides to seize private lands to build his racist wall, and diverting FEMA and Defense Department funds to pay for his impotent wall.

The abuses just keep coming. Click Here to tell your Representative to hold Trump accountable.

Poverty, homelessness, and hunger are outrageous injustices—an indictment of our national misplaced priorities and policy failures.

PDA champions economic and social justice among our top priorities, and we work with top activists to address poverty. Please support this effort by signing our petition calling on the DNC and cable news networks to prioritize questions on the crisis of poverty, housing, and hunger.

The Student Debt Crisis looms as a dark cloud over our economy. PDA Executive Director Alan Minsky reports, “Senator Bernie Sanders and Rep. Ilhan Omar introduced legislation to cancel all outstanding student debt; their bills compliment parallel legislation that would make all public state and community colleges tuition free.”

Alan explains, ”If passed, these bills would solve a massive crisis that has been suffocating the American economy and burdening the lives of 45 million working and middle class Americans.” Click Here to sign on as a grassroots cosponsor of the Student Debt Cancellation legislation.

PDA is working with a national Medicare For All (MFA) coalition. Call Congress at 202-858-1717 and Click Here to tell your Representative to Cosponsor Rep. Jayapal’s and Rep. Debbie Dingell’s Medicare For All Act.

Then, Click Here to tell your Senators to cosponsor Bernie Sanders’ MFA legislation. Click Here to contact Mike Fox and get involved with MFA and Climate organizing.

Too busy to help organize? Then Click Here to pitch in $3, $5, or whatever you can afford to support PDA’s issue organizing. If you’ve never donated to PDA before, now is the perfect time. We need your support now more than ever.

P.S.: The 2020 election cycle is starting. Join PDA investing to recruit and elect progressives in 2020.
