PDA endorsed Ed Markey the first time he ran for the U.S. Senate six years ago, and we’re endorsing him for re-election now. He’s a lead author of Green New Deal legislation, and a champion for our other progressive priorities. He’s facing a challenge from his right, and he needs our help now!

Senator Markey has always stood with us. Here are some quotes from his conference call with PDA six years ago that he’s upheld and amplified ever since:

“I remain fully committed to protecting our bedrock safety-net programs—Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security—which provide critical health care and income security to millions of our most vulnerable citizens.”

“Health care is a right, not a privilege. I have long supported the establishment of a single-payer system so that everyone, regardless of income, could have access to high-quality and affordable health care services.”

PDA endorsed Betsy Sweet because she has a proven record for leadership on the most important policies. She’s devoted her adult life to empowering people and the grassroots, and cleaning up Maine elections by leading reform efforts including clean elections and Ranked Choice Voting.

Betsy walks the walk, shunning fat cat donors. Meanwhile, Mitch McConnell and his cohorts—including Sen. Susan Collins of Maine—obstinately block desperately needed legislation, and march in lockstep behind Donald Trump. This even as millions of us lose jobs and healthcare—even our lives—due to the Trumpublicans’ malign neglect.

McConnell, Collins, and the rest of the Senate Trumpublicans refuse to even consider 100s of bills the House of Representatives already passed, preventing needed action including protecting our lives during the COVID-19 emergency and our elections from domestic and foreign interference (H.R.1). That’s why we’ve made flipping the Senate by electing Betsy Sweet a top priority.

Our mission to bring your grassroots voice into the halls of power depends on your generosity. Just like Betsy Sweet, we refuse to ask for or accept donations from corporations, dirty money PACs, or other conservative sources. That keeps Betsy and PDA independent and effective, but unless you step up now, we cannot accomplish our shared goals.

PDA is proud to endorse progressive champion Andrew Romanoff for Senate from Colorado. He’s won every test of support so far, except for the backing of machine politicians beholden to big corporate donors.

PDA Colorado announced, “We are excited to announce our endorsement for Andrew Romanoff, candidate for United States Senate. We recognize his continuing efforts to tackle the climate crisis we are facing, to fight for Medicare for All and to support equal rights for all Americans and immigrants.”

If given a fair chance, progressives win nominations. If nominated, progressives win. However, if an establishment candidate needs help “clearing the field” and cannot compete fairly in a primary, then they’re a weak candidate.

Worse, if voters’ concerns are overridden or ignored, then turnout suffers, and the chances for right wing Trumpublican victory increases. For all these reasons, we support progressives in primaries, and we empower primary voters to choose the strongest candidates—without sabotage or interference from insiders.
