Voting as a Tactic on the Terrain of Struggle

“Voting” in a bourgeois democracy is a tactic, not a principle, and not a strategy. Tactics for progressives must be designed to support allies, defeat threats, and expand the terrain of struggle.

Issues must be addressed among the allies or potential allies of the progressive movement. And in this climate of the decline of imperial hegemony there are many issues. As OH Sen. Nina Turner stated on a PDA call last week, genocide is a major issue. There are others – healthcare access and affordability, homelessness, police violence, and more.

Among our allies the multi-racial labor movement is central. The labor movement has endorsed the Democrats; and from my observation this was not an automatic endorsement but a considered endorsement. Is there any question that the expansion of the labor movement is key to maintaining or expanding the terrain of struggle?

The Progressive tactic must be to work for a Democratic Party sweep of the Executive and Legislative branches of this billionaires’ government. The public will see this as a rebuff to the fascist trend and it will encourage more union organizing, more rallies, demonstrations, and other public actions against genocide, austerity, war, and militarism.
