Video: Healthcare is a Human Right
By Dr. Bill Honigman for Donna, Mike F., Mike H. Judy, Janis, Dan, Deb, Kimberly, Bryan, and Amos—Your PDA National Team
Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) supports improved Medicare for All to guarantee a single standard of high-quality care for all without financial barriers, while saving taxpayers and consumers hundreds of $billions each year. This publicly-financed system would deliver healthcare to all—with no bills, no co-pays, no deductibles, and no medically-caused bankruptcies.
Polls show that nearly everyone who understands Improved Medicare for All supports Improved Medicare for All. We all have to work on getting the word out. Musician and creator Cliff Tasner and National Nurses United (NNU) produced a short video to help us explain Medicare for All / Single Payer healthcare. Support organizing for healthcare as a human right
It is a moral outrage for a country as wealthy as ours to leave 50 million people with no reliable access to health care and tens of millions more with inadequate and/or overly expensive coverage. Health care is a basic human right, codified in international declarations which the United States signed several decades ago. Our failure to guarantee healthcare as a human right causes death and suffering. Click here to watch the video and then share it widely.
Furthermore, this human rights concept lies at the core of every religious and secular ethical tradition. Leading economists and analysts have found that a Medicare for all / single payer-style healthcare program would save lives and money. Actual experience with the U.S. Medicare system and similar plans in other nations confirm these findings. Click here to watch the video and then share it widely.
Despite spending nearly twice as much per capita as other developed nations on health care, the private for-profit U.S. insurance-based bureaucracy wastes approximately one-third of all the funds spent, and big pharmaceutical firms overcharge and exploit patients and taxpayers through monopolistic price fixing and other unethical practices.
