How To Lose Friends And Create Enemies

Our work for peace has never been more important. Yesterday at the United Nations—a place for diplomacy and negotiation—Trump vowed to “totally destroy North Korea.” He also took gratuitous swipes at Venezuela and other nations. These tantrums are unbecoming a world leader to say the least. At worst, they’re risking nuclear warfare.

We founded Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) during the height of the Iraq War in 2004, in large part to bring forth strong voices for peace within the Democratic Party. Such voices have never been more necessary than now, as Trump’s reckless and irrational declarations keep alienating and provoking much of the planet.

With Advisory Board Members including Representatives Barbara Lee, Jim McGovern, and John Conyers as well as Code Pink cofounders Medea Benjamin and Jodie Evans, PDA has relentlessly pushed for an end to war and occupations. We launched our Healthcare Not Warfare campaign nearly eleven years ago to call attention to the inhumanity of the United States’ for-profit insurance dictating and denying healthcare, obsessively violent international policies, and profligate spending on warfare and weapons.

Let’s be 100% clear: threatening a nuclear attack is immoral and we must not let Trump make such threats in our name. Click here to sign our petition. Join with the vast majority of Americans in calling for sense and sound judgment, not saber rattling regarding North Korea specifically, and war—especially nuclear war—in general. We call upon you to walk back your threats of “fire and fury” which have alarmed your own advisors as well as the people of the world. Renounce any and all threats of a nuclear attack against North Korea immediately, and pledge not to use nuclear weapons against any other nation.
