TODAY: Stand With Us Vs. The “Do Nothing” Senate. Call. Rally. Tweet. Speak Out!
In solidarity,
Mike Fox for Alan, Dr. Bill, Dan, Kimberly, Bryan, Donna, Deb, Janis, and Mike H. — your PDA National Team
On July 2nd, the Senate headed home for recess despite having done nothing to respond to the escalating public health and economic crises spurred by the COVID-19 pandemic, fund essential services to provide relief to communities and workers, or effectively address systemic racial injustice. The Senate has failed to move forward with the $3 trillion stimulus package, the HEROES Act, which passed the House six weeks ago.
Now, COVID-19 cases are reaching new heights around the country, healthcare systems are becoming overtaxed and working people are facing even greater economic uncertainty as more states halt re-openings. The Senate’s refusal to act and take a vacation in the midst of crisis is a clear failure of leadership — and working people across the country are taking action to hold their senators accountable.
Here are easy ways to help.
1) Call your Republican Senators Wednesday at (202) 224-3121.
Tell them to Pass the Heroes Act and to protect the following: At least $100 billion for public K-12 education and public colleges and universities to safely reopen; $500 billion for state aid and $350 billion for local aid that funds the services that retain our EMTs, public safety officers, teachers and school workers, sanitation workers, home-care providers, and other front line public service workers; $175 billion for the health and safety of our front line providers and the American people (i.e. testing, protective gear, Medicaid expansion.)
2) Attend a peaceful event near you. (Remember social distancing and masking.)
3) Twitter. Use these hashtags: #SenateFail; #DoYourJob; #HeroesActNow; #GOPVacation
