Three Urgent Actions for Today

Unity Requires Justice: Hold Trump and His Enablers
Accountable for Their Actions
Even as the Biden administration moves forward on multiple crises facing our nation—controlling the pandemic, bringing desperately needed economic relief, combating climate change, and dismantling systemic racism—three pieces of unfinished business remain.
First, let’s be perfectly clear. What happened on January 6 at the Capitol wasn’t a protest. It wasn’t a riot. It was armed insurrection to support an attempted coup d’etat, led by white supremacists, planned in advance, and aided and abetted by the sitting President of the US. For his actions in trying to overturn a fair election and inciting violence against the US Congress, Donald Trump was impeached. He deserves to be convicted by the US Senate. Call or email your Senators today and tell them that they must vote to convict Donald Trump. Then let us know how your calls were received.
Second, Trump did not act alone in his brazen quest to retain power despite being voted out of office. Even after the violent mob breached the halls of Congress, a majority of Republican Representatives and eight Senators voted against certifying Joe Biden’s electoral victory, knowing that their unsubstantiated claims of widespread fraud were false. Some also helped the attackers.
Their actions must be investigated, with appropriate sanctions applied to those who encouraged the violence that left seven people dead. Rep. Cori Bush has introduced a resolution to bring justice to these unfit members of Congress. Urge your members of Congress to cosponsor and support the Bush resolution.
Third, in a spiteful and bizarre bit of “whataboutism,” five Republicans brought forth a resolution this week to strip Rep. Ilhan Omar of her committee assignments in retaliation for demands that conspiracy theorist and mass shooting denier Marjorie Taylor Greene (who has called for the execution of Democratic lawmakers) be removed from congressional committees.
Like so many other Black Americans, Rep Ilhan Omar routinely faces criticism and even death threats for refusing to sit down and keep quiet. The ridiculous resolution to censure her will fail. Meanwhile, PDA has Ilhan’s back. Please show your support for Rep. Omar by donating to her re-election campaign and PDA’s efforts to bring accountability to elected officials who espouse conspiracy theories and condone violence against their colleagues.
To sum up, call your Senators to demand they convict Donald Trump for his part in the January 6 insurrection and let us know you called, write your members of Congress to support Rep. Cori Bush’s resolution holding Trump’s enablers accountable, and donate to show your support for Rep. Ilhan Omar and PDA.
