Adelita Grijalva’s landslide win this past Tuesday was a beautiful thing for many reasons. It was a victory of integrity and substance over style. It was a victory for progressive policies over lukewarm centrism. It was a triumph of grassroots organizing over big money. And most importantly, Adelita’s victory means that the people of AZ-7 will continue to be represented by a true champion of the people in the district.
Adelita will join us to celebrate and look forward to the upcoming general election, while addressing pressing issues facing the residents of AZ-7, the country, and the planet.
We will also be joined by a few of the great activists who, along with PDA, worked tirelessly to elect Adelita. This is super-important because Adelita’s campaign was exemplary. Not only did PDA forge great bonds with allies in AZ-7, but also the campaign represents a model that PDA will work to replicate across the country.
One essential element of this model was the great bond that existed in AZ-7 between PDA and organized labor. Have no illusions, such a partnership will be powerful going forward. Indeed, progressives have two great institutional assets across the entire country that have the potential to transform American politics: the labor movement and groups like PDA (most notably, PDA itself). When the labor movement and PDA work together as we did so brilliantly in AZ-7, we just may be unstoppable.
Now, we can bring that unstoppable approach to TN-7 where there will be another special election because Republican Mark Green announced he was stepping down, virtually the moment after he voted against Trump’s big beastly bill. We will be joined on Sunday by a brilliant progressive candidate who has announced for that special election, State Rep. Aftyn Behn.
RSVP now for another groundbreaking PDA Town Hall this Sunday!
