Tell Congress To Prevent Nuclear War
Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) was founded in 2004 to work for peace and progress, and we’re calling on you to help us promote peace today. OK, so you must be pretty old to even remember any significance to this email’s subject line, but we trust some of you might get the drift. Even if you are too young to recall any TV program by that name, we do live in an age when satire and comedy might seem difficult to separate from the realities unfolding in the Trumpublican age.
It’s hard to laugh about the threat of nuclear war. After all, no matter how badly some people are itching to go forward and prove our strength through killing lots of people and damaging the planet even more. Please contact your members of Congress and tell them to pass legislation to restrain Trump’s warmongering.
Please Give Generously to Help Resist Trump
On Monday, October 30th, 2017, a couple of Trump’s guys were indicted as the result of the Russia investigation. No real surpises here except for another fellow who pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI—not such big news when you consider that the current White House occupant lies easily and often to all of us. Also on Monday, PDA highlighted women’s rights.
On Tuesday, October 31st, Halloween, a man in NYC mowed down people on a bike path. He killed eight and injured many more, before being shot and captured by NYC police. Trump made sure to puff hmself up with how strongly he would respond to terrorism in the U.S. even before he expressed concern for New Yorkers. We at PDA celebrated our dear friend and National Advisory Board member Rep. John Conyers on Tuesday because of his work for decades to achieve justice and peace.
On Wednesday, November 1, 2017, as Trumpublicans made plans to cut taxes for the wealthy, PDA reminded its base that even though he fashions himself above the law, Trump must be held accountable for his abuses. Seems we’ve all been trying to say that for a long time. Tyrants rarely listen.
On Thursday, November 2, 2017, we just flat celebrated our sister Nina Truner, president of Our Revolution, former OH state senator, and one of the founding fellows of the Sanders Institute, as she mebarked on her efforts in Florida. This is a woman we’d love to see debating a few more Trumpublicans, as we know who would prevail. Thank you, Nina.
On Friday, November 3rd, 2017, folks were abuzz with news about the DNC and favoritism around the 2016 presidential primary. It wasn’s real big news to most of us, and we are not giving up in any way on our efforts to bring more progressive voices to the DNC. PDA has always been fighting for that, so it will be great to have more organizations and others with us going forward. We are ready to keep moving forward—ever onward to justice.
The weeks of dysfunction under the Trumpublican regime seem to blend into one big mess of goofy, ominous moves against anything remotely desired or suggested by progressives or even moderate Democrats and a celebration of bully-behavior by those who devoted to being selfish over standing together for peace and juctice for all. Though it has only been 10 months since Trump took office, it seems like a whole lot longer.
PDA remains a force for progressive energy through our chapters and all who work with our progressive champions in Congress to hold tthe line against the worst abuses while demanding strong, just policies that benefit all Americans and point us toward a safer planet. Every single day, we commit ourselves to each other and to all of our neighbors who hunger for better. That what progressives do—we make progress. What we do not do is damage people for selfish gain, and we will oppose that vision for this nation at every turn.
Finally, Trump has left the country for his big Asia jaunt. While we do not wish him or his brand of bravado and brutality on anyone, we needed a break from his constant blathering on about himself. Most of what he says is not truthful or helpful, though, so we cannot help but be hopeful that while he is gone, we’ll be less stressed by his distractions. We have too much work to do to waste our time on his brand of ridiculous.
Join us in our efforts, friends. 2018 is only a few weeks away, and we know we can look forward to ending this period of Trumpublican terror foist upon the world. We have critical work to do together. Could you please give generously to support our Resist Trump Action Fund?
Solidarity, fellow progressives, and peace,
Donna Smith, PDA Executive Director
