As progressives, we are optimists. We believe in people, and the better angels of our nature. We believe we can make a brighter future for all of us to share. And when someone comes along, talking about lofty goals of unity and transparency and transformation, we want to take them at their word. Why not? We’re as good as our word. Surely, they are as well.

Sometimes, though, would-be progressives disappoint us. Their rhetoric may be uplifting, but their facts are skewed. Their goals may be visionary, but the details on getting from here to there are scant or missing altogether. Their words may inspire, but their actions fall short or don’t match or just don’t get the job done. In other words, they talk the talk, but they don’t walk the walk. As progressives, we have to think critically and not be taken in by lofty words without substance.

PDA talks the talk, and we walk the walk. We educate elected officials and voters, and we amplify our words with actions. In the streets, on social media, and in the halls of Congress, we carry our message of progressive goals and how to achieve them. We wage campaigns on behalf of worthy candidates, and with our sister organization Progressives for Democracy in America, we wage campaigns for issues like Medicare for All, the Green New Deal, and human rights.
