The State of the Union Needs to Change
In solidarity, Mike Hersh for Alan, Deb, Mike F., Janis, Dan, Dr. Bill, Kimberly, Bryan, and Shayna—your PDA National Team
Tonight, Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) watched as Trump spoke out against the ills his own policies cause. Fact check: there are not more blue collar jobs in the USA, and our economy is not working for most Americans. Trump speaks out against poverty, but his policies create more poverty every day. Trump’s tax policies hurt middle class families, and lavish unearned benefits on the wealthy and huge corporations.
Trump could lower prescription drug prices tomorrow, but won’t. He could have done so at any time with GOP control of Congres over the last 2 years. He didn’t even try. He won’t even try. Trump is correct about one thing: We must fight cancer. We know that’s best done with Medicare For All, not charity or Go Fund Me pages.
Trump demonized abortion. We need to honor women, not attack grieving would-be mothers whose pregnancy went horribly wrong. This is the most shameful demagoguery. We need Medicare For All not divisive accusations or empty promises.
Trump is making up complete, racist nonsense and demagoguing against immigrants. He wants to waste $billions of tax dollars on an impotent wall. Trump praised ICE, but some ICE agents are sexually assaulting people, caging children, and killing infants. We need reasonable and fair Immigration Reform.
It was great seeing all the women in white for the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). Their sarcastic ovation for Trump’s helping to get a wave of progressives elected to the House last November brought laughter to the chamber.
Trump bragged, “We will go into space,” possibly because we have to find another planet. This one is dying. USA as leading oil producer and exporter is not good with the Climate Emergency.
Trump is correct to call for the troops to come home. It’s true every time he says it, but it never happens. He attacked Socialism while espousing Fascism.
PDA prefers presidents who know things and tell the truth. Whose policies help people, not hurt them. If you feel the same way, join with PDA working for real progress.
If we reach $10,000 a month in sustaining donations, PDA will be guaranteed to be on budget for the entire year. That means our staff and our legions of PDA volunteers will be able to take all the energy they currently expend on fund raising and put it into our passion:
