Tell Congress: We Need Medicare For All!

On this #MedicareForAll (#MFA) Monday during the #ClimateEmergency week of action, we at Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) wish to point out that MFA is a tenet of the #GreenNewDeal precisely because there can be no solution to either crisis without attention to both.

Of course, our #ClimateCrisis demands attention to the adverse health effects of extreme weather, such as water and food shortages, mass migrations to unfamiliar climes, and exposures to unusual toxins and pathogens.

But even more compelling is the argument for action based on the idea of #EnvironmentalJustice, knowing as we do that these health maladies disproportionately effect our most vulnerable populations, which demands of us a civilized and public solution.

We know that MFA is just that kind of public solution.

On the other side, we know that MFA saves money, lots of money. Healthcare economists conservatively estimate savings with a #SinglePayer system between two and five hundred billion dollars per year.

And rather than asking us how we can afford MFA, they should be asking us how will we be spending all the money that we’ll save with MFA. That could for example buy us a whole lot of solar panels and wind farms.

The common thread here, as we say in PDA and the progressive movement, is the need to #EndCorporateRule. Corporate welfare and crony capitalism are why we can’t have the medical care and climate mitigation that we need.

So, on this MFA Monday, we at PDA ask you to join us in calling all of your members of Congress. Tell them to cosponsor the Climate Emergency Resolution #HConRes52 (House) and #SConRes22 (Senate), as well as the National Medicare for All Act #HR1384 (House) and #S1129 (Senate).

And tell them that our #ClimateEmergency and #MedicareForAll are not about right versus left, they’re about right versus wrong.

We’re closer than ever before to a historic Congressional vote! PDA wholeheartedly supports the Medicare For All Act. We need Improved Medicare For All which will save 10,000s of lives and 100s of $billions every year.
