Take Action On Climate Now
By Mike Hersh for Donna, Mike F., Judy, Janis, Deb, Dan, Kimberly, Bryan, and Dr. Bill—Your PDA National Team
When Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) welcomed Rep. Tulsi Gabbard to Denver, Colorado, she praised us for our help in drafting and gaining cosponsors for her landmark climate legislation, the Off Fossil Fuels for a Healthy Future (OFF) Act (HR 3671). “PDA has been a tremendous partner on spreading the word on these important issues,” she told PDA activists and allies.
We agree with Tulsi when she says, “Twenty-First Century problems demand Twenty-First Century solutions—like the OFF Act—that will invest in green technologies and end corporate hand outs to the fossil fuel industry. Not only will this help address the threat of global warming, it will also expand the economy, create jobs, and modernize our energy production and transmission. The promise of a clean energy economy is one of skilled, good-paying jobs, advanced and sustainable infrastructure, as well as clean and safe neighborhoods.”
Tulsi urged us to continue to “move with a purpose” as we focus on our core issues like the climate emergency, immigration, peace, and healthcare as a human right. She encouraged us to continue our work saying, “Energy coming from organizations like yours calling their Congressional members and asking them to cosponsor the OFF Act or other legislation makes a big difference,”.
No crisis is more serious than climate change. The science is clear. The need to address the climate emergency is clear. We cannot delay. We cannot keep pouring tons of warming pollution into our atmosphere. Scientists predict more massive and more deadly storms this hurricane season as just one of the dire consequences of global warming. The window to act is closing. We must make up for lost time by getting off fossil fuels rapidly. We must act decisively now to end our deadly addiction to fossil fuels.
That’s why we’re calling on you to join us supporting Rep. Tulsi Gabbard’s legislation. Click here to tell your Representative to cosponsor the OFF Act. Then, please pitch in to support PDA’s Stop Global Warming Efforts by check or card. Money tight? Then volunteer for our Climate Emergency Action Team.
PDA activists joined other environmentalists demanding the strongest possible Climate planks in the 2016 Democratic Party Platform—. We’ve continued our advocacy for ambitious but attainable solutions that would modernize and clean up our energy sector while creating countless sustainable, living wage jobs. We were instrumental in the drafting of the OFF Act, working with lead sponsor Rep. Tulsi Gabbard. When the OFF Act becomes law, we will aggressively move toward a 100 percent renewable energy sector by 2035.
In the face of climate denial and inaction at the highest levels, we must mobilize to save our planet from the ravages of irreversible climate catastrophe. Join PDA’s efforts to combat climate change on the ground, in city council chambers, in state legislatures, and in the halls of Congress.
We’re working to move proactively on climate. To do so most effectively, we would like to identify a core group of climate activists who will work with our PDAction leaders to make sure we do not lose our momentum. Please click here to sign up. Our Congressional champions continue to push forward on climate and environmental issues, and they will succeed of they can count on your activism.
