Tackling the Climate Emergency: House Hearing on Wildfires
In solidarity,

Tune in for an important hearing of the House of Representatives Oversight Subcommittee on Environment on Wildfires and Forest Management on Wed, March 16th, at 10:00 AM Eastern Time
Every summer, California’s increasingly large and destructive wildfires send up a dramatic reminder of the climate emergency that threatens all life on Earth. In California’s forests, climate change-driven drought and high temperatures are colliding with over a century of timber extraction, forest mismanagement, fire suppression, and the genocide of the land’s original Native stewards, creating a “perfect storm” of natural disaster and socioeconomic devastation.
On Wednesday, the House Oversight Subcommittee on Environment will hold a hearing on “Fighting Fire with Fire: Evaluating the Role of Forest Management in Reducing Catastrophic Wildfires”
Don’t miss this important hearing on the climate emergency, featuring singer and environmental advocate Carole King, as well as important testimony from Mechoopda Tribal master ecological practitioner Ali Meders-Knight.
Ali Meders-Knight, whose ancestral lands were burned in the 2018 Camp Fire, brings California Native wisdom and leadership to the table with a plan for Tribally led workforce development and job programs to restore and decolonize vulnerable federal forests—protecting our communities from wildfires through Tribal stewardship and a just transition for rural economies.
These are the solutions we need for environmental justice and a Green New Deal to address the urgency of the climate emergency!
