The Climate Narrative Is Shifting As
Youth Climate Strikers Lead The Way
Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) calls upon everyone to support tomorrow’s U.S. Youth Climate Strikes. The younger generations, carrying Climate Truth as their guide, are leading the way forward. It’s incumbent upon all of us to stand and march with them.
The climate narrative in the world of Democratic politics has changed. Since last November, seemingly from out of nowhere, the mainstream climate position in progressive circles is that we are indeed in a climate emergency. It has even begun to force its way into the mainstream Democratic Party narrative as well. Polling indicates 80% of Americans support the Green New Deal.

The narrative in Democratic Party politics has changed for the better. The Ocasio-Cortez/Markey Green New Deal resolutions have forced a sustained discussion of a 2030 timeline for a climate justice-centered, WWII-Scale, Green Moon Shot, societal transformation in the U.S. Congress.
The demand for Climate Truth jolted the climate networks inspiring a shift from pursuing incremental strategies of the “politically possible” to reckoning with what, in the face of this existential threat, is actually necessary to avoid societal collapse.
This shift didn’t come from out of nowhere, nor is it going to weaken. It cannot. It is the full-throated determined arrival of the younger generations building upon the decades of work of great climate leaders across all sectors.
We are at the dawn of the most critical phase of the transformation, the phase during which we must remain diligent and focused. We must not allow any effort to dilute or delay progress or action. The messengers of Climate Truth—the younger generations—are leading the way, and we must support them every step of the way.
This week, PDA and our allies at The Climate Mobilization reported that 395 city councils already have declared climate emergencies across five countries. The Sunrise Movement is taking the Green New Deal directly to the people with the Road to a Green New Deal.
Also, The Extinction Rebellion is building toward an international week of direct action April 15-22, (more details coming soon). Our Children’s Trust continues moving forward in efforts to bring its constitutional climate lawsuit, Juliana vs.the United States to trial. Watch the 60 minutes piece on it that aired last week. Finally, there is the breathtakingly powerful, inspiring, and lucid call to truth from the U.S.Youth Climate Strikes. Tomorrow, March 15, is the day of international action.
PDA calls upon you to sign up, show up, and stand up in solidarity with the school strikers every way we can. Tell everyone you know. Share on social media. Donate to support our climate action. Show up for your kids, your grandkids, your great-grandkids, and generations to come.
There can be no dilution of the truth. Only the strengthening of our courage and resolve to face and to meet this moment in history, and to insist that climate truth inform and set the agenda for the 2020 election cycle. The threshold for candidates must shift. The threshold of our expectations must shift. All candidates must be determined to mobilize on climate. This is our work.
