Tell Congress Not to Fund the Border Wall
Damn Right, This Is About Human Rights!

Is it extreme to demand humane treatment for immigrants? Is it extreme to demand compliance with settled law and the U.S. Constitution? As Sen. Bernie Sanders said last week (defending Medicare For All and the Green New Deal): “Damn right! This is about human rights.” 

Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) stands up for migrants, asylum seekers, the dignity of human beings, and the need to keep families together. Demand that Congress refuse to appropriate one cent for Trump’s worthless, wasteful, racist wall.

There’s No Emergency And No Need For A Wall

Let’s be clear: Former Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Director Kirstjen Nielsen was not a good public servant. Her policies put children in cages. Her agents ripped toddlers from their parents’ arms. But she refused to bus immigrants illegally from the border to sanctuary cities, and sothe budding fascists of the Trump administration decided she was too soft on immigration policy to head the DHS.

Trump has proposed “tent cities” (internment camps) for immigrants waiting for processing of asylum claims—to which they are legally entitled. His nominee to head Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has compared child detention centers favorably to “summer camps.”

Make your voice heard! Call your House member and Senators now. Identify yourself as a constituent, and ask to speak to the staffer working on immigration issues, or the chief of staff. Leave a voice mail if they’re not available, and call back every day until you get an answer. Tell them: “No abuse of Emergency Powers when no emergency exists! No Wall! No family separations! No inhumane treatment of migrants!” Then, let us know what happened when you called.

Trump’s administration is cutting aid to the impoverished and dangerous countries from which people are fleeing. He demonizes immigrants to rev up his base and distract from his own growing legal jeopardy. And he calls Democrats extremists.

As Bernie said, “Damn right! This is about human rights.”
