If they’re not available, ask to leave a voice mail message.

House Speaker Paul Ryan refuses to allow debate in the House, but after tomorrow he may not have a choice. As reported by Politico, House Republicans careen toward immigration showdown—GOP leaders have tried but so far failed to blunt an effort by moderates to force a floor vote on DACA,(Politico 06/04/2018).

Several months after Trump rescinded the Obama-era initiative, multiple deadlines have come and gone to fix DACA. Young people who have lived here most of their lives and are in every sense Americans are still being used as pawns in partisan political games. We have one last chance to move DACA forward before the midterms. Click here to demand a fair up or down vote on the bipartisan, overwhelmingly popular DREAM Act.

From the Politico article:

House Republicans are on the brink of an embarrassing showdown over immigration that Speaker Paul Ryan and his leadership team have been desperately trying to avoid.

As lawmakers left Washington for the Memorial Day recess in late May, GOP centrists gave immigration hard-liners a choice: Allow a vote on a bill that includes a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers—or we’ll team with Democrats to force votes on bipartisan immigration legislation you hate….

If all the Democrats and a few more Republicans sign the discharge petition, that would force floor debate and votes on multiple bills. The bill that gets the most votes would pass. Click here to tell your Representative to help force debate and a vote on the bipartisan, overwhelmingly popular DREAM Act.

Of the bills now active in the House only the DREAM Act (HR 3440) has overwhelming support of the American people and traction in Congress. This bill, backed by most Democrats, would offer permanent legal status and a path to citizenship without tacking on money for a wasteful, foolish border wall or reckless border militarization.

As Politico also reported:

[House] Leadership hoped to stop moderates from garnering the 218 signatures for a so-called discharge petition needed to trigger the immigration vote on the House floor. But Democrats are poised to join hands with several dozen centrist Republicans to pass a bill codifying the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program….

The bill would toughen border security only modestly, and it includes virtually no new restrictions on immigration; its passage would be a humiliating defeat for the GOP-controlled Congress.

GOP leaders have scheduled a two-hour immigration meeting on Thursday to try again to break the impasse. Ryan will make a final push to corral the conference behind an immigration plan. Moderates have designated that day, June 7, as a soft deadline for securing 218 signatures, which would tee up the immigration vote series for June 25. Currently, they’re five signatures away and expected to easily clear that threshold.

Now is the time to act! Please Click here to tell your Representative to sign the discharge petition to force a vote on the bipartisan, overwhelmingly popular DREAM Act. DREAMer organizations and allies in the progressive movement will not stop until we get a clean Dream Act passed.

In solidarity,
