September 11, 2017 – Peace is Still the Answer

Sep 11, 2017

By Donna Smith, Executive Director – Progressive Democrats of America

“Nonviolence is the answer to the crucial political and moral questions of our time; the need for mankind to overcome oppression and violence without resorting to oppression and violence. Mankind must evolve for all human conflict a method which rejects revenge, aggression, and retaliation. The foundation of such a method is love.” ~ Martin Luther King

Thinking of those laboring on behalf of love on this September 11th. Whether they are in Houston showing love through helping in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey or just rising to the aftermath of Hurricane Irma in Florida and beyond, this September 11th offers us all the chance to evolve and keep building a foundation of love.

Since the bright, clear morning of September 11th, 2001, when violence gave permission for more violence for millions of people throughout the world, we find ourselves confronting a more dangerous world in which our nation has all too often sowed the seeds of violence more readily than the bonds of love. Yet, if we look to one another for the power to offer love in place of hatred and hope where there may be darkness for those in our own communities, we see the tremendous change those showing and sowing love can command.

All we need do is think of that small committed group of people who wondered if they might convince Bernie to run for president as a Democrat, and we see evidence of how powerful love really is — and we know the ongoing challenge remains to demand peacefully that equality and justice be valued for all. Love will prevail. But no one said it would be easy, did they? Join us. No one said this progressive Democrat thing would be easy, did they? We just know finding ways to help one another is a heckuva lot more impressive than hurting others or poisoning the earth.

Peace and love,

Progressive Democrats of America
