RSVP Now for this Sunday: We Celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride & Free Speech as We Organize to Defend Equality and Liberty!
Sunday at 4pm ET/1pm PT, We will Take a Close Look at Two Pillars of the GOP’s Reactionary Agenda: Homophobia and Anti-Intellectualism. Then, We Organize to Defeat Them! Love and Equality over Oppression! Liberty and Wisdom Vanquishing Repression! RSVP Now!
You do not want to miss this week’s Town Hall. Invite your family, friends, comrades, and co-workers. Everyone attending will gain a better understanding of the right-wing politics of division and hatred that, sadly, remain a major force in contemporary America.
Then, together, we will consider an essential issue: how we triumph over these reactionaries and build a progressive movement strong enough to, at long last, achieve “an America as great as its promise.”
First, we will hear from Illinois State Representative Anne Stava-Murray, who introduced first-in-the-nation legislation to ban book banning. The bill passed through both chambers of the Democratic-controlled State Legislature and will soon be signed into law by Governor Pritzker.
State Representative Stava-Murray is a member of the Progressive Caucus of the State Legislature. We will highlight this fact as Stava-Murray explains the backstory of the bill, including recent efforts by far-right groups to ban books in Illinois localities. It is a standard ploy of conservatives in the media to claim that progressives oppose free speech. This is, of course, a grotesque and intentional misrepresentation. Progressives have long been, and remain, the strongest defenders of the First Amendment. It will be great to be joined by Rep. Stava-Murray, a true Progressive champion!
Then, as we celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride month, we will be joined by Nadine Smith, one of the most inspired and inspiring progressive leaders in the country. Smith is the Executive Director of Equality Florida, the state’s largest organization dedicated to ending discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. This past year, Smith was named to the Time100, TIME’s annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world!
Tragically, Governor Ron DeSantis’ unrelenting homophobic campaign of hate has transformed Florida into the front line in the struggle for LGBTQ+ rights. Fortunately, the LGBTQ+ community in Florida – and everyone around the world who supports equality and human rights – has Nadine Smith to counter the despicable DeSantis.
Our goal this week is simple. By the end of the Town Hall we want every attendee to be armed with potent rejoinders to combat the right-wing’s homophobia and anti-intellectualism – along with clear and irrefutable talking points about why progressives remain the strongest advocates for equality and liberty in American politics.
We hope to see you Sunday.
