Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) was founded in 2004 to reform the Democratic Party. That mission has never been more clearly necessary than now. Did anyone need official confirmation of the need for such reform? We didn’t think so. This week saw yet additional confirmation of the power money exerts at every level of our political system.

It seems that due to the joint fundraising aggreement with the HRC campaign that the DNC used to stay afloat throughout the 2016 presidential primary campaign, there was preferential treatment of one campaign over the other.  And it wasn’t the Bernie wing of the Party that was favored.  The latest revelation angers some, provides valdiation for others, and gives us all powerful motivation to keep pushing for complete and fundamental DNC reform.

DNC deputy chair Rep. Keith Ellison of Minnesota said, “We must heed the call for our party to enact real reforms that ensure a fair, open and impartial nominating process in elections to come. I’m committed to working with Chairman Perez to make the DNC more transparent and accountable to the American people, whether that’s by ensuring that debates are scheduled far ahead of time or by guaranteeing that the terms of joint fundraising agreements give no candidate undue control or influence over the party.”

We agree with Keith, and we will hold the DNC to account for the real reforms to which he refers. PDA’s reality is that we understand the need to work on DNC reform while also not losing sight of the damage the Trump regime and its minions are doing to this nation and our planet. PDA is also committed to encouraging voter turnout in local and state elections, including those in Virginia. We know that when turnout is high, Democrats tend to win, and Bernie pointed that out many, many times.
