This month is Pride Month! This year marks the 50th anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall Uprisings, which sparked the modern LGBTQIA+ rights movement. Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) stands in solidarity with that movement.
Among their countless assaults on common decency and human rights, the Trump regime is fomenting hate against vulnerable people, especially trans people. Trump is not only restricting LGBTQIA+ rights, but he and his hateful minions are trying to erase LGBTQIA+ history and their essential mark on American culture.
Trump and his bigoted brigade continue to threaten innocents. In contrast, Democrats have long pushed the envelope on protecting, recognizing, and expanding rights for all. President Obama recognized Stonewall Inn as the birthplace of the modern day LGBT rights movement by making it a national landmark.
The Obama Administration also helped usher in new jurisprudence recognizing marriage equality and other basic rights for all. Of course Bernie Sanders has long advocated courageously for equal rights as well. All this underscores our assertion: elections matter.
