We Must All Do What We Can to Re-Elect Raphael Warnock to the U.S. Senate in the runoff election in Georgia on December 6th

The January 6, 2021 insurrection and the entire Trump presidency showed these are perilous times for American democracy.

Fortunately, on January 5, 2021, the people of Georgia elected Raphael Warnock to the U.S. Senate to close out the term of Johnny Isakson, who had retired.

Once in the Senate, Warnock has been one of the most powerful defenders of American democracy against coordinated attacks on free and fair elections by Republicans across the country. In particular, Sen. Warnock advocated for passage of the John Lewis Voting Rights Act that would effectively outlaw these nefarious actions by Republicans and strengthen democracy across the land.

This legislation passed the House, but required a filibuster carve-out in the Senate. Unfortunately, two Democratic Senators, Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema, blocked its passage.

We must return Raphael Warnock to the Senate both because he will continue to lead the movement for democracy from inside the chamber, and also because his vote will likely be the determining vote to pass the John Lewis Voting Act following the 2024 round of elections.

Here’s why that’s the case. If Democrats win the presidential election again in 2024 it’s quite likely they will regain control of the U.S. House and hold onto their current Senate seats—with one important upgrade: the Senator elected from Arizona will probably not be Kyrsten Sinema but a progressive like Ruben Gallego. Therefore, with the seat the Democrats gained this year, thanks to John Fetterman’s victory in Pennsylvania, they will have 51 Senators—and without Sinema, Sen. Manchin won’t be able to block the John Lewis Voting Rights Act from becoming law.

But none of that is possible unless Raphael Warnock is returned to the Senate in the special election less than two weeks from today.

So, let’s do everything we can to help Raphael Warnock get elected. Donate here. Sign up to volunteer here.
