FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 14, 2022

Progressive Democrats of America calls on progressives to rally behind Jessica Cisneros in her Re-Match against Henry Cuellar in one of the most consequential primaries of 2022

  • Who: Progressive Democrats of America, a Grassroots Political Action Committee
  • What: Endorses Jessica Cisneros for the U.S. House of Representatives
  • Where: Texas’ 28th Congressional District, from San Antonio to the border
  • Why: This is among the earliest and most important primaries in the 2022 cycle
  • When: From today though the Texas Democratic Primary, March 1, 2022
  • How: By facilitating donations, making phone calls, and otherwise mobilizing support

Washington, D.C.: Executive Director of Progressive Democrats of America Alan Minsky said, “Progressive Democrats of America is proud to announce our first endorsed non incumbent candidate for 2022: Jessica Cisneros in TX-28. We endorsed Jessica Cisneros because she is an exceptional candidate challenging an atrocious incumbent, in a primary scheduled so early that the result will be a bellwether for the entire progressive movement. There’s a lot on the line in this contest.”

Minsky continued, “Fortunately, the challenger is truly exemplary. Born to immigrant parents in Laredo, Texas, Jessica Cisneros is of, by, and for the people of her district that runs from San Antonio south to the Mexican border. She wholeheartedly supports popular, common sense solutions and reforms including the Green New Deal, Medicare for All, a pathway to citizenship for immigrants, and the rest of the progressive agenda. Importantly, she always explains how each policy will have a positive impact on the communities in her district.”

Minsky added, “Jessica ran a brilliant campaign in 2020, almost pulling off one of the great upsets of our time, losing by fewer than 3,000 votes to the well-funded establishment-backed Cuellar. Even more impressive, she has stepped up to run again, building upon the strong foundation she assembled two years ago. We applaud her courage as she works to win an essential race for the people and the planet.”

Minsky explained, “A victory by Jessica Cisneros over Henry Cuellar would be huge. Texas—recently a hot bed of right wing extremism—will hold the first primary in the country, making the stakes even greater. A Cisneros win on March 1st will instantly change the narrative of the entire 2022 midterm election cycle. Progressives will be seen as ascendant in the Democratic Party, providing a spectacular boost to other progressive candidates across the country. The voting public will learn more about a viable option other than status quo Democrats and reactionary Republicans.”

Minsky concluded, “Progressive Democrats, including Jessica Cisneros, are dedicated to serving the needs of the people and the planet, and are poised to remake American politics during this critically important midterm election cycle. Jessica Cisneros is running against one of the best-funded, most right-wing Democratic incumbents, but has a tremendous chance to win. A victory by Jessica Cisneros will be a game changer with implications felt across the land, and one of the great progressive wins of our time.”

Progressive Democrats of America is a Grassroots Political Action Committee launched in 2004 to advance progressive policies and help elect progressive candidates. Our goal is to help create governing progressive majorities in the House and Senate. For more information please see: http://PDAmerica.org.

I believe in progressive policies as the one’s that Congressman Kucinich
ran on in 2004. I was there in Boston as PDA was founded at that
    Progressive Convention.
We have a lot of young folks we call progressive running on ideology and
at best copycats of Bernie Sanders (PSA)
Yes we can elect progressives to Congress or to the US Senate, but
a win at any level does not mean a progressive victory will change
Policy. RULES and more rules are the keys to VICTORY!
