Today, as we celebrate President’s Day, Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) can’t help but consider how badly the current occupant on the White House compares with those who came before him. Trump lacks any sign of compassion, foresight, wisdom or courage. Trump is trying to take away our healthcare by attacking Medicare, the Affordable Care Act, and Medicaid.

By contrast, both Roosevelts—Teddy and FDR—proposed a national universal healthcare program. So did Harry Truman. That means PDA’s (and Bernie Sanders’) push for single payer / Medicare for All (MFA) is nothing new. In fact, our demands and organizing build on a long history of advocacy dating back a century!

We need MFA because only such a well-designed, detailed, and fundamental reform of healthcare will guarantee every one of us will receive all the medically necessary healthcare we need to live healthy, fulfilled lives. Anything short of MFA will fail to include everyone; fail to contain waste, fraud, and abuse; and fail to meet the standards of care we need.
