Please Join the Call to Free All Political Prisoners in Egypt on the Occasion of the COP27 Conference
Alan Minsky, Executive Director Progressive Democrats of America
Dear Member of Congress,
I am writing to urge you to join with Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) in demanding that the Egyptian government free all political prisoners and guarantee that demonstrations be allowed to proceed freely on the occasion of the COP27 summit, which begins this Friday in Egypt.
Progressive Democrats of America has joined this call along with hundreds of other organizations from around the world, as well as many world leaders, luminaries and dozens of Nobel Prize winners. To sign onto a letter in support of this international campaign, please contact Egyptians Abroad for Democracy by phone (423) 313-3997 or email: email@example.com.
Tens of thousands of political prisoners are being held in Egypt by the dictatorial regime of General Sisi. We, at PDA, do not believe that such regimes should be granted the honor of hosting major global conferences. Therefore, as people of conscience who support human rights, we know we must speak out when the world’s attention is focused on Egypt.
Only eleven years ago, the pro-democracy demonstrations in Tahrir Square inspired the entire world. It is a tragedy so few years later that so many governments and leaders have turned their backs on the rights of the Egyptian people.
Please join with PDA in standing up for the human rights and freedom of the Egyptian people and all people across the world by calling for the release of all political prisoners in Egypt and that demonstrations can be held there without fear of repression.
